Holguin

Bariay is the name of the place where Christopher Colombus touched ground in Cuba. This place is located in Holguín Province. Its beauty and nature made him say the phrase: “This is the most beautiful place that human eyes had ever seen”.

This territory has at least 14 important cities among them Banes and Gibara are one of the most well known. Banes is considered the capital of archeology in Cuba and Gibara is famous for colonial architecture. Holguín also has ruins from ancient fortresses that were protecting the city from pirates that were attracted by all the riches that were stored in the city.

Capital city is also known as The City of Parks, due to amount of them. It is a mixture of Spanish architecture with American chalet. The neighborhoods of the area are attached to their traditions and culture.

At least 40%of the archeological potential of the island can be found in the province. The most interesting places are Chorro de Maíta which is the most important aboriginal cemetery in the Antilles and the Indocuban Museum of Bani.

There are, as well, eight important beach areas, some keys dedicated to tourism and natural parks. But Holguín is also an industrial province; it has a big reserve of nickel and cobalt.
